Why this quiet place exists, and the promise we make to everyone who finds it.
Still Beside Me began the way many gentle things do — out of a loss that no one around us seemed to fully understand.
When a companion animal dies, the grief can be staggering. Yet so often, the world expects us to simply carry on. We were told to "get another one," or that it would pass in a few days. It didn't. And in searching for a place that took this grief seriously — without clinical coldness or empty platitudes — we found that very few existed.
So we made one.
This is a space for the grief that others overlook, and the love that earned it.
The bond between a person and their animal is real. We treat it that way, always.
We write to help, not to chase attention. No fearmongering, no manipulation.
We offer comfort and information — and we'll always point you toward professional support when that's what's needed.
No judgment, no pressure, no clock. You can return as often as you need.
Our content is created by a small editorial team who have each grieved the loss of a beloved animal. We research carefully, draw on the work of grief counselors and veterinary professionals, and review everything we publish for both accuracy and compassion. When a topic touches on medical, veterinary, or mental-health matters, we make our boundaries clear and encourage you to seek qualified care.
